RECONNECTING YOU TO NATURE

‘Connecting People to Nature’, the theme for World Environment Day 2017, implores us to get outdoors and into nature, to appreciate its beauty and its importance, and to take forward the call to protect the Earth that we share. This year’s theme invites you to think about how we are part of nature and how intimately we depend on it. It challenges us to find fun and exciting ways to experience and cherish this vital relationship.

On 5 June, go outside and show us that India is with nature using #IndiaWithNature. Breathe in the beauty and remember that by keeping our planet healthy, we keep ourselves healthy too. Click here for more.

Why is the Ocean Conference important for India?

The term ‘seven seas’ means different things to different people, and in fact, the ‘seven seas’ are not separate and distinct bodies of water. They are all part of a single ocean system that spans the globe connecting all lands and all peoples.

Over 3 billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods. What happens in one part of the ocean can impact the entire system as well as people everywhere. In India, about 35% of the population live within 100 km of the country’s coastline measuring around 7500 km. Without a healthy ocean, we won’t achieve the Sustainable Development Goals – to end poverty and protect the planet by 2030.

That’s why the Ocean Conference is so important. Taking place from 5 to 9 June 2017 in New York, this historic event will set out a concrete plan to restore our ocean to health. Read here for more.
