#LightTheWay to a better future

On September 24th, the day before the Global Goals would be adopted, hundreds of thousands of people mobilized around the world to #LightTheWay to a better future. Over 150 events were planned in 100+ countries, with major events held in Sydney, Delhi, Johannesburg, Sao Paulo, London and New York.

In New Delhi, thousands of people gathered at the historic old fort, Purana Quila, where an enthralling coming together of light, music and dance celebrated the adoption of the Global Goals. Organized by Action/2015, Save the Children and the United Nations in India, #LightTheWay featured a concert by a very popular musician, Raghu Dixit, and a laser light show narrating the story of the Global Goals.

Amid an enthusiastic crowd of young people, Dr. Rebecca Reichmann Tavares, Representative, UN Women for India, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka, said, “Today we are taking part in a much larger campaign to make the goals known to all and to push for their full implementation. If the goals are well known – if people care about what has been promised, they will be implemented. After all, the more people know and care about the goals, the more people will work to ensure that global leaders drive change. As the United Nations, we are calling on everyone to help spread the message of the global Sustainable Development Agenda to ensure that the Goals become a reality.”
