The share of the elderly in the population has been increasing over time. There are more elderly women than men in the country.||India has made some progress in addressing the particular concerns of elderly people, with literacy rates increasing from 27% to 44% between 1991 and 2011.||About 65% of the aged have to depend on others for their day-to-day maintenance. Less than 20% of elderly women are economically independent.||Almost half of the elderly population in India suffer from locomotor and visual disabilities.||Industrialisation, urbanisation and migration have increased the vulnerability of the elderly in India.||As India endeavours to ensure that “no one is left behind” in the new global sustainable development agenda, the implementation of holistic policies and programmes that address its population dynamics and ageing society is crucial.”][/owl_get_post][vc_separator][vc_column_text]
