Spotlight Initiative

#WithHer is a creative digital engagement campaign from Spotlight Initiative — a global, multi-year partnership between European Union and United Nations to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls by 2030.

The campaign is designed to promote the elimination of violence against women and girls, while bringing visibility to the Spotlight Initiative and its partners, including UN agencies receiving funds from the Initiative (ILO, IOM, OHCHR, UN Women, UNDP, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNOCD, UNTF, WHO).

The campaign will have online and offline elements and activations, including human-interest stories, videos and photographs from around the world that highlight Spotlight Initiative’s programmes and impact. The campaign will also include different calls to action for continued public engagement.

The Facts

Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today.

  • 1 in 3 women worldwide have experienced physical or sexual violence.
  • 15 million girls aged 15 to 19 worldwide have experienced forced sex at some point in their life.
  • 137 women across the world are killed by a member of their own family every day.
  • 650 million women and girls were married before age 18.
  • 200 million women and girls have undergone female genital mutilation.

Women and girls are disproportionately subjected to violence, including femicide, sexual violence, intimate partner violence, trafficking and harmful practices.

This needs to end. Everywhere. Now.
