[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The recently adopted Sustainable Development Goals underscore the global intent to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all within the next 15 years. The resource gap that needs to be bridged to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals is significantly large. It is well recognized that resources cannot be fully mobilized by countries alone and a significant part of the required resources will need to be raised globally in a spirit of common but differentiated responsibility.
South-South Cooperation (SSC) has emerged as a parallel mechanism to support the global quest for improved quality of life across the world. Over last decade, sustained economic growth in emerging economies has fueled a shift in the global center of gravity from the North to the South. The South began looking beyond the North-South Cooperation (NSC) and Triangular Development Cooperation (TDC)- which was fueled by the Official Development Assistance (ODA) for development cooperation. This led to a new development cooperation architecture with a considerable flow of resources within the Southern countries.
The role and importance of SSC has been recognized by world leaders at the Financing for Development Summit (FfD) at Addis Ababa and the 70th UN General Assembly resolution on Agenda 2030. South- South Cooperation has emerged as a mechanism that fosters mutual benefit, recognises sovereign identities and engages fellow developing countries in variety of linear linkages. The upcoming conference will discuss key emerging issues facing South-South cooperation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
